PS5 or Xbox Series: Where Do I Stand?

This next generation of video games has a really weird sort of excitement to it. Every new generation is exciting to see what’s new, but for me it feels different this time around. This is the first time in a long time I really don’t feel like I need a new console.

I think a lot of people have this sentiment right now. Xbox has been making it so easy to just say “I can wait a while for a new Xbox.” Everything Xbox is offering will still be on the Xbox One X, that I already own, or PC which I also already have.

The funny thing now, PlayStation is doing the same thing. They were originally going to be PS5 exclusive games. A real strict generational line. They have since gone back on that and their big next gen games, Miles Morales and Horizon Forbidden West will be coming to PS4 as well. I have a Pro so I’m in this weird predicament where I love video games, and new generations should be exciting, but upgrading right away seems pointless.

So, I’m looking at launch games, and launch window games. To be real, Xbox doesn’t have anything launch day or window I care that much about. I’m stoked for the next Fable game, but who knows when that is. PlayStation on the other hand has some great games, but if I can play it on my PS4 Pro and with no issues, who cares? Demon Souls Remastered looks amazing, but I have never actually finished a Souls game, so it that really worth a brand new console for? I don’t think so.

Ultimately, I guess I’m looking at ecosystem. I have a lot of friends across both consoles, but I spent so much time on 360 and the One that I feel like I have invested a lot more into it. PlayStation has those amazing first party titles, but even third party games I gravitated towards Xbox.

Game Pass is also huge. Especially after Microsoft just bought Zenimax, and in turn Bethesda, one of my favorite game publishers and developers out there. Seeing past and future Bethesda titles like Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Dishonored all being on Game Pass day one is wild to me. That alone, for me, is worth having a Game Pass subscription.

I was lucky enough to be able to pre-order both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. I’m also lucky in the fact that I didn’t shell out full price on the consoles yet and I can cancel them at any point. Right now, I am absolutely looking at getting and Xbox Series X. It’ll be nice to have the Series X at my work station and my One X in the living room. PS5 will undoubtedly sell amazingly well and be an incredible console, but in terms of value, at launch, I think Xbox takes it.

Where are you at for your decision this next generation? Are waiting it out? Already got a pre-order? What console did you play most this last generation? Let me know in the comments below!
