New World has been my go-to relaxing game for 2023. I jumped back into the game heavily for Season 3 and the new expansion Rise of the Angry Earth. I played through the entire season pass and really enjoyed all the new things they added. Like the flail weapon, and finally the mounts. I genuinely don’t follow the lore super heavily, I just play solo, run through quests, level up trade skills, and just mindlessly explore.
I’m still running through the Angry Earth expansion quest line, but (I believe I am at the very last boss fight now. I think I could beat them, but I’m also saving a bit of it to try and play with my brother. He just recently got back into it so I’ve been playing a little at a time with him, helping him catch up. So leveling up my other weapons, like Hatchet and Blunderbuss, has been a side quest I put on myself. I maxed out the Great Sword, Sword and Shield, and the Flail at this point.
Season Four has been going for a little bit now, and I’m still enjoying the game a ton. This season has a festive holiday theme like previous years. The big yeti guy is back handing out some lackluster stuff like always. I did redeem some coins for weapons to unlock some skins though. Otherwise, the event is meh for me. I don’t feel the need to grab lost presents for coins. Maybe if I decorated my houses more, but that also doesn’t seem to have a big impact on the game overall.
Doing the season story so far has been good, but I am stuck with I think the second-to-last boss. Some ice guy who keeps spawning in skellies. I’m not sure if I can party up with anyone for this quest, but I might need a second person for this. I haven’t had any huge issues in the past when it came to soloing, but for some reason, this guy is kicking my butt. I might need to respec a bit as well. I don’t pay that much attention to it, to be honest.
I just recently finished the fishing storyline quest. I basically needed to get my fishing skills up to 100. It wasn’t difficult, but it did take some time. I really do enjoy doing the trade skill stuff in this game. It’s my favorite. Chopping down trees, mining some ores, and fishing is just so relaxing for me. It sounds silly, but it’s really great.
I found myself adding New World to one of my weekly things. Every Wednesday morning is my day off, so when I wake up, I download the newest episode of my favorite podcast F**K Face (it’s not what it sounds like), and play New World for about an hour or so. It’s basically become a ritual for me. It’s been nice to have some consistency in my life, even if it is just an hour of MMO gaming.
