PSA: I’m not a super fan of Star Wars. I don’t know the names of all the characters or the types of droids in the Star Wars universe. I enjoy the movies, and have enjoyed the games. Leave me alone.
EA is kicking off E3 this year and the first game they are showing off is Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order from Respawn Entertainment. Respawn is known for one of my favorite games of this generation, Titanfall 2, and the game that evolved the battle royale genre Apex Legends.
The games’ story takes place after Order 66 when Jedi are being hunted down. Of course, this doesn’t seem super interesting. Force Unleashed did the same thing. But Respawn is here taking the reign, and Titanfall 2’s story was excellent. So I’m all in.
We see some Rogue One characters, like Forest Whitacker’s character from the movie. I loved Rogue One, so I’m excited to see if maybe we come across more known characters.
Instantly we see Respawn’s well known movement. Wall running looks exactly like Titanfall 2 and it’s the best feeling movement of any game that has had it. The combat is definitely imspired by Dark Souls. I understand that’s annoiying to hear, but it’s true. Dark Souls popularized the recent third person action genre with their controls. I love it. Taking on Storm Troopers is rad as hell. Slowing down time, throwing your light saber, and grabbing and pulling enemies. You can see the mini bosses that pop up as well. The black Storm Troopers with their purple electrical staffs.
The exploration feels a lot like Uncharted. Moving along paths, choosing how you want to take on enemies, and finding secrets. It’s great.
I am excited for Jedi Fallen Order. Respawn does some good stuff, and I can’t wait to see more of the story.
