The Search for a New Podcast Game // Ghost Recon Breakpoint

I have been playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint for 13 hours so far, and I haven’t heard a single sound of the game yet.

After deciding to take a break from my MMO/Podcast game New World, I needed to find a new game that I could play mindlessly and not have to worry about actually listening to it while I listened to my favorite podcasts. It took me a while, but I decided to give Breakpoint a chance. Especially since I have had it downloaded on my Xbox for quite some time now.

I played a bit of Wildlands, the first open-world Ghost Recon game and I really enjoyed it. At the time though, it was just too big of a world that I just couldn’t get into. Which is weird, because normally I really like exploring huge worlds and discovering stuff. Wildlands though, just had that Ubisoft bloat of lots of useless items on the map that didn’t feel very gratifying to collect.

Now, coming into Breakpoint, I expected the same thing, and honestly, this was perfect for what I needed. Breakpoint is so easily a game you can play muted and enjoy the gameplay and the running around the huge world. I literally couldn’t tell you a single thing about the story of the game, outside of what I remember from trailers a long time ago. Something about a guy going rogue from his team, and becoming an evil dude on an island or something. It really doesn’t matter, I just need something I can play, shoot enemies, and listen to funny people on podcasts each week.

Speaking of gameplay though, it’s fun. It reminds me a ton of The Division, which makes sense. Ubisoft, Tom Clancy. It’s the same, but different. Kind of. There were times that I, unfortunately, had to pause my podcast and try to figure out what the hell I was doing. It’s mostly the fact that I am jumping into a game that has had so many updates over the last five years, that nothing feels very cohesive at all. It’s just menus inside menus that unlock more menus to get to a menu you need. It’s insane, to be honest. It took me a little while just to figure out what the original story campaign was and what DLC stories there were. It’s a lot to dig through, but eventually, I got to the point that I was just looking at weapon numbers, picking the highest one, and then flying my helicopter to the new spot on the map that looked interesting.

I know that I absolutely won’t be beating this game. After 13 hours, I know that I don’t have too much left in it for me. It has been a fun ride, but it might be time for me to move along to something new. Unsure what that new game will be, but I need to find a new podcast game ASAP. I’m terrible at just listening to shows and nothing more.

Do you have a favorite podcast game? Any suggestions for me? Let me know!
